A visionary old school Bordeaux in modern days..

Hi winelovers,

I think is time to talk you about a particularly  or visionary wine I felt in love from Bordeaux: Chateau Le Puy.

Chateau Le Puy are based in the east-bank of Garonne river, in Cotes des Francs.

Why visionary? Because their style of wine is produced biodynamically  from as back as 16th century!! (a numerous public is asking more and more organic wines, well they JUST started 400 years ago!!) and they are still working their vineyard with horses, keeping a minimun mechanical intervention on the ground, all according to the moon calendar. ( I will explain on another post shortly this practice of wine growing)

Obviously their wines are extremely particular, the nose is very much liquorice, earthy, anisette flavours deep rooty character, where the mouth is a sublime balance acidity / tannins, keeping the tannins greatly integrated and silky, and the acidity smooth and velvety.


I think there is no doubt of the particular love I have for this wine, I invite you once in your life to taste this legendary wine that takes you back to 30-40 years ago when Bordeaux wines were still
 a status symbol before the wine critic Parker has impose his style and taste to many  Bordeaux wines.

oggi vi presento un Vino che appartiene ad un progetto visionario che data almeno 400 anni:
Chateau Le Puy.

Ci troviamo nella riva destra di Bordeaux in una denominazione chiamata Cotes des Francs.

Perche' e' un vino visionario? beh basta pensare che la loro produzione e' cominciata attorno al 1600 e da allora hanno ossessionatamente prodotto un solo stile di vino, quello da agricoltura biodinamica.
( saro' lieto di spiegarvi in seguito il significato di agricoltura biodinamica).

Vi dico solamente che la lavorazione del terreno avviene ancora da aratri trainati da cavalli per minimizzare lo stress da meccanizzazione e seguono una filosia di coltivazione della vigna seguendo le fasi lunari del pianeta, appunto la biodinamica.

E' un vino che si apre al naso con profumi che variano da radice di liquirizia, anice stellato, humus, sottobosco e foglie secche per cui si differenzia tanto dai comuni Bordeaux, per poi in bocca avere un acidità ben presente, un tannino integrato e molto piacevole, quasi vellutato. Poi un retrogusto che rimane persistente con queste note da sottobosco molto caratteristiche.

Vi auguro almeno una volta nella vita di poter assaggiare un vino di questo calibro, farete un viaggio nella Bordeaux di 30-40 fa, dove il vino era ancora uno status symbol prima dell'era della "Parkerizzazione".
